Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is an ancient hands on healing art used for relaxation, stress reduction and to promote healing.

What is Reiki

Reiki is a technique where the practitioner lightly places their hands on or slightly above the client to channel the unseen life force energy or universal energy through the hands into the body of the client. This universal energy is what causes us to be alive as well as all living things. The knowledge that an unseen energy flows through all living things and is connected directly to the quality of health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. If one’s life force energy is low, then we are more likely to feel stress, fatigue and become sick. If it is high we are more likely to be in good health and have an overall feeling of well being.

During a treatment, the practitioners hands are placed on specific areas of the body corresponding to various energy centers or areas of the body that are in need, such as areas of pain, or dysfunction. The client may feel sensations of warmth, cooling, tingling, or nothing al all as the movement of energy is subtle. During the treatment, old emotions sometimes surface and are released. This is cathartic and healthy and assists in the healing process.

Reiki was developed in Japan in 1922 by Miko Usui, a Japanese monk.

The Five Reiki Principles

Just for today, I will not be angry

Just for today, I will not worry

Just for today I will be grateful

Just for today, I will do my work honestly

Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
