Hakomi integrates mindfulness and an attitude of presence, gentle acceptance and care to promote self awareness, empowerment, and healing.

Benefits of Hakomi

When combined with Chinese Medicine theory and practice, it creates a gentle, yet powerful and effective approach to working with the energy in all sorts of physical and emotional conditions. The combination brings one to a greater self awareness of the flow of energy in harmony and disharmony, as well as steps to correct imbalances in energy that produce dis-ease in body mind, and spirit. During the treatment focus is directed inward to bring awareness to what is being felt and experienced to gain understanding of patterns of disharmony that lead to healing and wellbeing.

Background

Hakomi was originated in the mid 1970’s by Ron Kurtz, an American psychologist and author. The name Hakomi method, is based on a Hopi Indian word that asks “how do you to stand in relation to these many realms”, or, more simply, “who are you?” It draws from a broad range of influences including Buddhism and Taoism, and many body centered therapies. Hakome integrates the mindfulness and non-violence found in Taoist and Buddhist traditions.
